"Is Google the beast" when it comes to collecting data, asked the BBC's Torin Douglas at this morning's Targeting Technology seminar.

Google's tracking is "quite shocking", responded John Snyder, CEO at Grapeshot.  "Google stores IP addresses and URL data for 18 months, while Grapeshot just uses cookies to store key words relating to a user for a short period of time, which is not an invasion of privacy," he added.

"It's amazing what Google have got on you," added another panellist, although Paul Frampton, managing director of Media Contacts & MPG, argued that Facebook is more of a worry - "consumers still don't get it", he said.
